CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has praised Beach Wheelchairs in North Berwick for their work supporting wheelchair users to get on the sand and enjoy East Lothian’s beaches.
The charity, which has operated since 2015, offers free hires of specialist wheelchairs for wheelchair users to enjoy North Berwick, Seton Sands and Portobello beaches.
Craig Hoy MSP said: “It was fantastic to see first-hand the incredible difference that Beach Wheelchairs are contributing to the quality of life for residents and visitors of East Lothian looking to enjoy our incredible beaches.
“I was delighted to meet the team at Beach and learn more about the programme, and I would absolutely encourage anyone interested in learning more about the programme or volunteering for the charity to reach out to the team.”
Melanie Kay from Beach Wheelchairs said: “I have been volunteering for around four years and it has been a very positive experience. The joy on people’s faces when they return from visiting the beach sometimes for the first time in many years , makes everything worthwhile we have a very supportive team and we get to meet inspirational families along the way . It is a pleasure and a privilege to volunteer with this most worthwhile charity.”
