CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, was in Tranent for Small Business Saturday last week.
Small Business Saturday is a non-commercial campaign encouraging shoppers across the UK to shop local and support small businesses in their own communities.
Last year the campaign achieved record-breaking success and saw an estimated £1.1 billion spent with small businesses across the UK on the day, according to estimates from American Express, the campaign’s principal supporter.
Mr Hoy joined local Conservative Councillor Gordon Mackett on Tranent High Street for Small Business Saturday.
The pair took the opportunity to visit Nettie’s Take Away, City Savers and Bisset & Steedman Kitchens and say thanks to local business owners for supporting local jobs during the pandemic.
Mr Hoy commented: “Lockdown has been very challenging for our High Streets, so in the run-up to the Christmas period it’s important we share a big ‘thank you’ to small firms in East Lothian.
“These businesses are the bedrock of our High Streets and they provide a vital source of employment for people living in East Lothian.
“I was delighted to join Gordon and meet with small business owners in the community to encourage people to shop local and support their High Street.”
Michelle Ovens OBE, the Director of Small Business Saturday, said: “Our campaign mission to support and celebrate small businesses has never been more important, as small firms face considerable challenges to get back on their feet, but will be absolutely vital to the UK’s recovery.
“The pandemic brought home just how central small businesses are to our communities, so we’re encouraging everyone to get behind them on Small Business Saturday and use it as a way to send a big thank you!”
