A FAMILY-RUN malt producer based in Haddington has been recognised by Members of the Scottish Parliament for manufacturing natural malt ingredients sold throughout the world.
Pure Malt Produce Ltd was congratulated by MSPs for winning The Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade.
The family-owned business was established in 1972 by the Turner family and managed by Bruce Turner, chairman and managing director, and his son Ross, the deputy managing director.
The business supplies natural malt ingredients for food and drinks production around the world.
Pure Malt employs 95 staff and trades its produce in over 70 countries.
Craig Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, put forward the motion for the malt producer’s achievement to be recognised by Members of the Scottish Parliament.
Mr Hoy said: “I am delighted to submit this motion for Pure Malt Produce to be recognised and congratulated by Members of the Scottish Parliament.
“Pure Malt manufactures natural malt ingredients for the global food and beverages industries, and it provides significant employment opportunities for people living in Haddington and across East Lothian.
“The malt industry is an important part of Scotland’s heritage which has brought international attention our country.
“I would like to pass on my congratulations to Pure Malt for winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade, and I wish them every success for the future.”
The Motion, which has been presented to Parliament, reads: “That the Parliament congratulates PureMalt, an East Lothian based family business, on being honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade and has been specifically recognised for its excellence in international trade, distributing products to more than 70 countries globally; understands that the award will be presented to the PureMalt team at small event by the Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian alongside the East Lothian Provost; further understands that PureMalt Products Ltd is one of 205 organisations UK-wide to receive the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise this year; recognises that Pure Malt employs 95 people and was established in 1972 by the Turner family and produces natural ingredients for the global food and beverage industries.”
