Craig Hoy MSP for South Scotland recently visited a local FoodShare to learn more about the good work they do and the challenges they face.
During his visit to the social café, Craig was very impressed by the dedication of the volunteers and the quality of food offered to FoodShare clients.
Speaking after the visit, Craig said, “It was great to meet with Margaret, Kilvert and the team in Dunbar to learn about the organisation and what goes into running it. The social café is a great place for people to meet and get a bite to eat while listening to classical music played on a piano. It offers a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.
“The team works incredibly hard and is always looking for donations of both food and money. Anyone who can give, I urge you give to this great local cause that helps local people in need."
The team aims to give visitors the feeling of shopping rather than visiting a foodbank, with aisles to choose from and even shopping baskets. The visit highlighted the ongoing need for community support and the positive impact that local initiatives can have.
Craig noted the importance of government support, saying, “It is so important the Scottish Government supports local charities and gives them the right tools to continue supporting local people in need.”
