CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has launched a survey which has been sent to households in North Berwick asking for their views on the recently launched consultation on plans to introduce parking charges in the town.
Mr Hoy launched the survey after noting concerns from residents and business-owners in North Berwick about the proposals.
The plans could include the introduction of paid residential permits, on-street parking charges within North Berwick and charged overnight campervan parking on Melbourne Road, the Quadrant, Castlehill Car Park, Sewage Works Car Park and Haugh Car Park.
Launching the survey, Mr Hoy said: “I understand there are concerns about the proposal to introduce parking charges within North Berwick, and it is very important that residents are able to express their views on this matter.
“The survey asks residents for their views on parking charges, charged overnight campervan parking and possible mitigations to resolve parking issues in North Berwick including the introduction of a designated visitor car park away from the High Street and what residents think about introducing a ‘Park and Ride Scheme’ for visitors of the town.
“I look forward to seeing residents’ views on this matter and standing up for their interests.
“I will also be meeting and engaging with local businesses and holding a meeting with them. I am aware there is significant anxiety within the local business community about the proposal to introduce parking charges in the town centre.”
