CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has “warmly welcomed” Rishi Sunak becoming Prime Minister.
Mr Hoy said that Mr Sunak is a “tried and tested” leader who stepped up to provide unprecedented support to individuals and businesses in East Lothian during the Covid pandemic. He says the former Chancellor will prove a “steady hand on the tiller” during these challenging economic times and that his track record will reassure the financial markets.
Hoy added that Rishi Sunak has made it clear he will never shirk from the challenges facing people across East Lothian and is a “serious leader for serious times”.
Craig Hoy MSP said: “I am delighted that Rishi Sunak is the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
“Recent weeks have been very difficult for the Conservative and Unionist Party, but more importantly for the country and people in East Lothian who are struggling financially. That is why is it is so welcome that a tried and tested leader like Rishi Sunak is in place to guide the nation through the economic challenges that stem from the global cost-of-living crisis. His track record as Chancellor during the Covid pandemic proved his willingness to step up and deliver for people and businesses in East Lothian in the most trying circumstances.
“Rishi Sunak has shown he’s not going to shirk the big challenges facing communities in East Lothian.
