Craig Hoy has launched a petition to call on East Lothian Council to reopen Macmerry recycling centre following concerns from local residents about the impact of its closure.
Since the closure of the Macmerry recycling centre in October last year, residents have raised significant concerns about increased fly-tipping locally and the impact of the diversion of traffic through Tranent High Street.
Craig and local Conservative councillors whose wards are affected by the closure are now calling on East Lothian Council to reverse cuts to local services.
These cuts include the Macmerry Recycling Centre, local libraries, policing and school instrumental services. Instead, the local Conservative team called for the £109 million Musselburgh Flood Prevention Scheme to be scrapped, have opposed town centre parking charges across East Lothian and called for savings by closing bureaucratic Area Partnerships and a reduction in managers at East Lothian Council headquarters.
