Craig Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has warmly welcomed support from the British Army to help the ambulance wait crisis in Lothian.
The last month has seen heartbreaking stories from across Scotland where people have died after waiting too long for an ambulance.
Craig says frontline staff in Lothian are completely overwhelmed and this has had a knock-on effect on A&E services.
He added that the support from the UK Armed Forces should now ease the pressure on ambulance services, but that Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf were too slow to respond to the ambulance crisis.
Craig also hit out at Scottish Health Secretary Humza Yousaf saying people should ‘think twice’ before calling an ambulance.
Commenting, Hoy said: “There have been far too many heartbreaking stories across Scotland of people waiting too long for an ambulance.
“Our frontline ambulance personnel in Lothian are completely overwhelmed and that has had a knock-on effect on other services, such as A&E.
“Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf were too slow in getting top of this crisis in our ambulance service. It was reckless to hear Humza Yousaf tell people in Lothian to think twice before calling an ambulance.
“It is extremely welcome that the British Army are now on hand to support our ambulance service in Lothian as this should ease some of the pressure.
“Humza Yousaf needs to maximise the use of our Armed Forces and ensure that ambulance services and personnel in Lothian have every resource they need.”
