Craig Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has launched a petition calling on East Coast Buses to reinstate the suspended X5 bus service from North Berwick to Edinburgh.
The X5 bus ran through North Berwick, Dirleton, Gullane, Aberlady and Longniddry directly on to Edinburgh via the A1. It was suspended last year by East Coast Buses when national lockdown restrictions were first introduced.
Commuters from Dirleton, Gullane and Aberlady now face an extra hour on to their daily commute into Edinburgh without the service. For those communities there is no alternative direct public transport link into the city other than the longer 124 bus service which stops at Prestonpans, Wallyford, Musselburgh and Portobello.
Mr Hoy launched the petition on his website, which you can view online at: https://www.craighoy.co.uk/x5-bus
Craig commented: “I wrote to East Coast Buses outlining local residents’ concerns about the suspension of the X5 bus service.
“Unfortunately, the response back was disappointing, and East Coast Buses have so far refused to provide a timeline for the recommencement of the service.
“That’s why I am asking local people to show their support for the service and demonstrate to East Coast Buses the strength of feeling on this issue.”
