CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has said that speeding Heavy Goods Vehicles are a “major concern” for residents of Clerkington Road, Burnside and Fairway in Haddington.
This follows a survey which Mr Hoy conducted in the area.
94% of survey respondents said they wanted some form of speed mitigation introduced to combat an increased volume of traffic in the area in recent years.
A third of survey respondents wrote to Mr Hoy saying they wanted a crossing or lollipop person on Pencaitland Road to protect children and families while they cross the busy road.
Other respondents mentioned wanting signage or a speed camera on Clerkington Road to cut down on speeding traffic, and to raise speed bumps on the street which are too low for wide wheel-base vehicles.
Mr Hoy commented: “The increase in new-build housing in East Lothian in recent years has resulted in a notable increase in traffic on many of our streets.
“I have heard from a number of residents from Haddington who are worried about rising traffic and speeding on Pencaitland Road, West Road and residential streets like Clerkington Road.
“I am currently reaching out to East Lothian Council to get these issues resolved.”
