CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has today opened nominations for his annual Community Champions competition which celebrates local champions in health, wellbeing and sport across the region.
Mr Hoy previously hosted a Local Heroes competition in July 2021 to select someone to attend the State Opening of the Scottish Parliament as his official guest.
Nominees of the contest were later invited by Mr Hoy to attend a reception in the Scottish Parliament to recognise the work they contributed to their communities, which included a guided tour of the Parliament.
This year, the successful nominees of the Community Champions contest will also be invited to attend an event in the Scottish Parliament where they will be given an award and commended for their work in the local community.
Craig Hoy MSP said: “It is important to recognise local community champions who have played a pivotal role supporting people throughout South Scotland in difficult circumstances.
“The covid pandemic followed by rising living costs has been very challenging for many people in our community.
“I hope that by launching this competition, I can help to highlight the strengths of our community heroes and the fantastic work that they have been doing to support those most in need.”
Nominations for the competition close on 14 April 2023.
