CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has called for urgent action on the withdrawal of Community Treatment and Care Services (CTACS) in Gullane and Haddington.
Mr Hoy’s call comes after a constituent raised concerns over the closure of CTAC services in Gullane. CTACS are responsible for dressing wounds, suture removal, ear wax management and taking bloods.
The East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership have confirmed that despite a 30% increase in demand for CTAC services, unfilled vacancies and posts in the NHS combined with funding constraints from the Scottish Government will result in a review to consider CTAC services across East Lothian.
Craig Hoy MSP has agreed to meet with representatives from the Health and Social Care Partnership and he has also written to Scotland’s Health Secretary calling for urgent support for health services in East Lothian.
The South Scotland MSP said: “Following Humza Yousaf’s decision to allow inpatient services to be closed at Edington Cottage Hospital in North Berwick two years ago, I am deeply disappointed by this latest news that more health services in East Lothian are being scaled back due to funding cuts by the Scottish Government. This is despite the Scottish Government spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on an independence minister, independence white papers and court battles against the UK Government to hold an independence referendum.
“I will continue to work with the East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership to support local health services and press the Scottish Government for answers as to why more health services are being cut in East Lothian.”
