Craig Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has put forward a motion for the Scottish Parliament to recognise North Berwick’s own Catriona Matthew OBE for leading Team Europe to victory in the Solheim Golfing Cup.
The Motion text, which will be presented to Parliament shortly, reads: “That the Parliament congratulates Catriona Matthew OBE, from North Berwick, for leading the European Ladies’ Team to victory in the Solheim Cup; understands that the team secured a 15-13 victory over the United States at the Inverness Club in Ohio; notes that this is only the European team’s second-ever victory on US soil; recognises that Catriona is the first European Ladies’ Team captain to beat the United States twice; and wishes her and her team mates all the best following their famous victory.”
Submitting the motion, Craig said: “I would like to pass on my congratulations to local champion Catriona Matthew and the rest of Team Europe for their historic 15-13 victory versus the United States. To win on US soil was a huge achievement for the whole team and, as the leader, particularly for Catriona. I have submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament congratulating Catriona and the team on their victory, and I look forward to their achievement being recognised by fellow MSPs.”
