CRAIG Hoy, a Conservative MSP for South Scotland, has congratulated NHS Borders Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit following its 20th anniversary in a speech in the Scottish Parliament.
The South Scotland MSP told MSPs: “Over the past 20 years, the care unit’s specialist team of nurses have provided blood tests, medical assessments and allergy tests.”
“They have supported thousands of children in the comfort of an outpatient setting and this means fewer children being admitted into hospital for treatment or travelling to be treated in other parts of the country for treatment, and for children and their families the reassurance this provides is a familiar setting and results in less stress.”
“The unit has also helped to free up bed space at the BGH hospital, offering peace of mind for children and their parents, and the team of paediatric nurses have developed skills including specialist immunisations and the use of medical devices.”
He added: “The staff deserve our praise, our recognition and our thanks for their work, and I thank them hugely for that.”
