Craig Hoy has recently requested a meeting with Bank of Scotland officials following the announcement that the North Berwick branch is set to close.
The bank is set to close in early 2025, leaving North Berwick without a brick-and-mortar branch.
Craig said: “It is genuinely worrying to hear about the closure of the North Berwick Bank of Scotland. Of course, I strongly oppose this move and will fight for it to remain. The Post Office in the town is already under pressure, if it is the only place for residents to bank, the queues will only increase and lead to frustration.”
“Banks are closing across the region, sparking concern from many residents who are writing to me to express their opposition to closures. Statistics and graphs tend to only show half the story. I hope the Bank of Scotland is willing to see the catastrophic impact closing the last branch in the town will have.”
Craig has expressed particular concerns for those living in rural areas, especially elderly and vulnerable residents who are unable to use the internet or phone facilities. He has been in touch with banking officials and hopes a meeting can be arranged so he can voice his opposition.
He is urging residents that are being affected by the closures to contact him and he can be reached by email at [email protected].
